Cardiology Advanced Nurse Practitioner

To work as an Advanced Nurse / Clinical Practitioner as part of the multidisciplinary Cardiology team. The post holder will be responsible for clinically assessing patients, planning and delivering care and treatment. This will include the patients on an ACS/RNSTEMI intervention pathway. The post holder will manage the patient pathway from the point of referral through admission or transfer to Royal Papworth Hospital. They will ensure patients are assessed daily, referred for medical opinion if necessary and progress through their pathway in a timely way. They will liaise with medical colleagues to ensure effective nurse led discharge.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert clinical care and leadership, using advanced assessment and non-medical prescribing skills to support safe and timely treatment for cardiology patients. Take responsibility for clerking, consenting, reviewing, and discharging patients undergoing elective procedures. Collaborate with medical and managerial teams to prioritise the Cath Lab list and ensure effective care planning.

Support junior staff in clinical decision-making and act as a role model in professional development. Communicate clearly with the multidisciplinary team, maintain accurate records, and update own practice regularly. Maintain flexibility to respond to changing priorities across the hospital.

Ensure efficient use of resources, contribute to recruitment and performance processes, and actively participate in teaching, mentoring, and promoting a learning culture. Support service improvement by identifying areas for change, completing audits and incident forms, and implementing evidence-based practice.

Promote innovation and quality improvement through research and development activities. Take responsibility for health and safety in own area, reporting risks and supporting audits to enhance patient care and service delivery.

  • Valid NMC / HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of continued professional development to degree level.
  • Advanced clinical assessment course.

Desirable

  • Attained or working towards master's degree.
  • Possession of non-medical prescriber's qualification or willing to undertake training.

Experience

  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Recent cardiology / emergency experience at Band 6 or above.
  • Experience and training in staff development, coaching, supervision and teaching.
  • Be able to interpret clinical information and report as appropriate.
