We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Surgery Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support the lead Surgery pharmacist in providing high-quality care to surgical patients, ensuring efficient medication management and patient support. You will play a key role in patient counselling, stock management, and supporting the discharge lounge operations. Additionally, you will provide leadership through line management responsibilities, assist with clinical audits, and participate in service development. You will also deliver training to staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve pharmacy workflows. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for patient care, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Main duties of the job

The Surgery Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in supporting the lead Surgery pharmacist(s) by:

*Provide specialised counselling to patients newly prescribed medications, offering lifestyle guidance and support

*Serve as a liaison for the discharge lounge and support its operations

*Line management responsibilities

*Managing and updating stock lists, including fridge monitoring and controlled drugs, ensuring efficient stock management

*Assisting with clinical audits and research to drive innovation

*Deputising for the lead pharmacist in surgery meetings when necessary

*Collaborate with discharge focus groups and the pharmacy dispensary manager to enhance service development

*Delivering training to nurses, rotational pharmacy technicians and new staff on commonly prescribed medications, ensuring safe and effective patient counselling as well as pharmacy workflow processes

*Participate in dispensary, checking, late and weekend rotas. Undertake final checking as an ACPT as well as dispensing and any other dispensary-based duties as appropriate

*Future responsibilities may include support with counselling patients in the surgical pre-assessment clinic and triaging complex cases to the pharmacist

  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services, BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.

  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • Medicines Reconciliation qualification.

Desirable

  • Expert witness and supervisor accreditation.
