Job summary

An excellent opportunity is available to work as a Hospital Switchboard Operator. Switchboard is the first point of contact to the hospital and the telecommunication services.

This position is part-time average of 22.5 hours per week over a 4 week rota.

The role requires connecting calls to callers requirements, utilising the appropriate recourses i.e. extensions, bleeps, long range pagers, home numbers and mobiles. To respond to all emergency calls, alarms and contact appropriate personnel.

Main duties of the job

An essential criterion of the job involves the ability to work shifts including Early, Lates, Nights, weekends, bank holidays. To answer incoming calls in speedy and professional manner.

The successful candidate should be able to work unsupervised, and have experience of a PC based console.

Training will be provided using the Arc attendant console on our Cisco platform.

  • Educated to level 3 (NVQ level 3 / A Level) or equivalent level of knowledge.

Desirable

  • Computer Literate (MS Office)
  • Equivalent Knowledge.

Experience

Essential

  • The ability to communicate basic and sensitive information to colleagues, patients and relatives.
  • Able to demonstrate resilience as postholder will be in direct contact with patients / relatives and staff with emotional demands on a regular basis.
  • Able to organise, prioritise and adjust own workload in relation to the priorities of the department daily where workload can be unpredictable and require post holder to manage several requests at the same time.
  • Able to act autonomously within appropriate occupational guidelines, referring to their manager when appropriate.
  • Able to concentrate in a busy environment whilst maintaining the quality of own work.
  • The ability to suggest changes to own practice.
  • Standard keyboard skills
  • Good verbal communication skills including tact, diplomacy, discretion, and sensitivity.
