Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ANP/ACP) to join the Surgical Ward ANP Team on a six month secondment to cover maternity leave. This service fundamentally supports the delivery and inpatient management of the elective and 'In House Urgent' (IHU) cardiothoracic surgical pathways from admission to discharge.

We are seeking a knowledgeable, experienced, innovative, and enthusiastic team player who will embrace advanced clinical assessment and take a pro-active role in enhancing our service.

Under the leadership of the Lead Nurse, you will contribute to provide a 7 day a week service, working 12-hour daytime shifts (07:00-19:30hrs). This will include the advanced clinical assessment of both elective and IHU cardiothoracic surgical patients.

All applicants will additionally be required to undertake a Resuscitation Council (RC) UK ILS course annually.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to undertake occasional teaching and education of staff across the wider multidisciplinary team. We will do our best to support and allow your own professional development. Current experience of teaching and educational delivery would be advantageous. This advanced level of practice is benchmarked against the Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice (2017) which encompasses four pillars of clinical practice, leadership, management, education & research. You will be required to keep a portfolio to evidence core capabilities.

At a minimum for a Band 7 ANP or ACP appointment you must already have completed the Advanced Skills in Clinical Assessment course at level 7 master's level. You must already be working at a minimum level of a Band 6 and within an acute care setting.

Ideally you will also be a current non-medical prescriber. If not, you would be required to complete this module at level 7 and at the earliest opportunity following your appointment.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirement would only be considered for a trainee Band 6 appointment with the provision that on completion of the required level 7 module/s (as above) that they would progress along an agreed training pathway leading to a Band 7. For a band 6 trainee appointment you must already be working at this current level/banding.

You must have an ability to use your own initiative along with having well developed communication, clinical, organisational and team working skills.
