Senior Specialist Pharmacist - Outpatient Pre-Operative Services
Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
The closing date is 12 January 2025
Job summary
Are you an enthusiastic pharmacist seeking an opportunity to make a difference?
Royal Papworth Hospital invites you to join our team, providing high quality pharmaceutical care to patients in our specialist cardio-respiratory centre. The pharmacy department sits at the heart of our state-of-the-art, digitally enabled hospital.
In this new role, you will lead on the provision of advice to patients on the peri-procedural management of their medicines. The role is focused in our multi-professional pre-admission clinic, supporting patients who have planned cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, or who will be undergoing minimally invasive heart value replacement in the catheter laboratory. In addition to providing high quality care in the clinic, the successful candidate will be expected to train junior pharmacists and others in peri-operative medicines management and have a small ward-based pharmacy commitment in a surgical or critical care setting.
We welcome diversity in our department, and look to celebrate the unique contribution of each team member. As a team we are supportive of flexible and part-time working, and would look to agree a working pattern which meets the needs of both the individual and the service.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will:
- Independently undertake consultations with patients in the pre-admission clinic, advising on peri-procedural medicines management and making prescribing decisions within this scope where appropriate.
- Lead the development of guidelines and policies within your area of expertise.
- Provide training and mentorship for other professionals providing advice on perioperative medicines management.
- Maintain small ward-based pharmacy commitment within the surgical pathway.
In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will play a pivotal role in promoting safe medicines management within Outpatients and Day Ward environments. You'll have the opportunity to lead quality improvement initiatives or research projects and deliver training sessions to a variety of staff groups.
As a senior member of the pharmacy department, you will line manage a small number of pharmacists and contribute to our senior pharmacist team. We are dedicated to the development of line managers, providing access to leadership development programmes to enhance management and leadership skills.
If you are passionate about delivering exceptional pharmaceutical care and thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment, we want to hear from you.
