Job summary

This is a Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) and Heart Transplantation. The post is available for one year, with a possibility of extension by mutual agreement.

This Fellowship post in the Transplant Unit at Royal Papworth Hospital provides an opportunity for a Cardiologist to receive sub-specialty training in the management of advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation.

The post-holder will work with the six existing Transplant Cardiologists and one Health Education East of England rotating cardiology registrar as part of the wider Transplant Team. The post will provide experience and training in all aspects of inpatients and outpatient care of advanced heart failure and heart transplant patients.

The post-holder will have a trained educational supervisor, be mentored by the existing team with regular meetings and oversight by the whole team. Informal visits can be arranged through Dr Pettit or Dr Bhagra.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible to the Clinical Lead of the Transplant Unit and accountable to the Medical Director when undertaking the following duties:

Clinical Fellow will be responsible for:

1.Delivery of patient care under Consultant supervision, seeking advice or assistance as required according to level of experience.

2.To read and abide by the standard operating procedures of the Transplant unit.

3.Completion of accurate records, such as patient notes and discharge summaries.

4.Attendance at clinics, catheter labs, ward rounds and clinical meetings.

5.Undertaking procedures which will be directly or indirectly supervised as appropriate for level of experience.

6.Participation in clinical audit and research

7.Participation in regular timetabled teaching of other junior medical staff, students and non-medical staff.

8.Participation in training activities, maintaining portfolio and personal development plan.

9.Attendance at mandatory training.

10.Compliance with the policies and procedures of the Trust.

11.Adherence to the working pattern of the specialty and participating in the monitoring of hours as required by the Trust.

12.Notify the appropriate consultant if unavailable to attend work

13.Booking annual leave in accordance with the departmental arrangements and policies of Trust
