Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated individual to provide both administrative and laboratory support for our esteemed Royal Papworth tissue bank. This role is an excellent opportunity to gain or enhance laboratory skills, familiarize yourself with the Human Tissue Act.

Areas of focus for this role include heart/lung transplantation, cardio-thoracic diseases, and respiratory diseases. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about laboratory work and administrative tasks, interested in research studies related to heart/lung transplantation and respiratory diseases, organized and detail-oriented, possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and can manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Requirements for the position include an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the Human Tissue Act and experience in laboratory settings or administrative roles

Main duties of the job

In this role you will work closely with investigators, pathologists, and research staff, taking on key tasks including, but not limited to:

*Handling and processing fresh heart and lung tissue samples with a pathologist.

*Assisting with lab procedures (cleaning, maintaining)

*Basic processing of blood samples (centrifugation and aliquoting)

*Managing sample collection, storage, and transport according to the Human Tissue Act and lab policies

*Performing regular audits

*Providing simple anonymised raw patient data to researchers

*Coordinating and communicating with stakeholders

*Administrative tasks and data entry

*Scheduling and managing equipment service and repair

*Ordering and checking stock of project reagents and supplies

*Monitor central e-mail account

  • Vocational level 3 qualification in health or science-related speciality; OR good general education to GCSE / A level including English, maths & science; OR equivalent knowledge acquired through alternative education, training and experience

Desirable

  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent
  • Academic study in a health or biomedical science- related field
