Job summary

We are looking for the right person to lead the echo research service and develop our highly skilled Echocardiography team at Royal Papworth Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic experienced individual who can meet the unique challenges of developing our service in a new state of the art purpose built tertiary centre. The post holder would be expected to hold all the relevant skills for: advanced echocardiographic imaging in both physiologist and consultant led settings; conducting high quality and clinically relevant research/audit; teaching and training of all internal and external echo trainees as well as experience in conducting and support research. The successful candidate will work closely with the other lead cardiac physiologists to run the cardiac physiology department as a united team.

Our cutting-edge Echo department based in a tertiary cardiac centre is supported by multiple Consultants who continue to expand our service provision and drive forward a programme of clinical and service innovation, efficient service delivery and the outstanding patient care. We are proud to say that our entire fleet is of the highest specification next-generation equipment; 3D echo is a routine aspect of our clinical practice, enabling us to develop and deliver service directly to out-patients, wards, ICU, structural labs and operating theatres.

Main duties of the job

You are expected to hold all the relevant skills for advanced echocardiographic imaging in both physiologist and consultant led settings, including and be able to conduct and formulate their own research and be responsible for sourcing funding and maintain accurate records income. They will also lead on departmental research and support ongoing projects.

Using their expertise and developing knowledge to provide technical/scientific expertise in echo and research, the key activities that are expected of the post holder is:

1.To formulate and develop their own research proposals.

2.To support external research requiring echocardiography and to be a link between the Heart and Lung Research Institute and the echocardiography department

3.To promote and develop research and research ethos within the echocardiography department. To provide excellent managerial leadership for the cardiac physiology team regarding research echocardiography

4.To represent Royal Papworth Hospital at National and International meetings and conferences and to present their research.

5.To keep up to date with the national and international regulations surrounding research.

6.To be able to perform highly specialised echocardiography within clinical practice and research. To also lead on physiologist led clinics, complex echocardiography and cath lab echocardiograph

  • Accreditation from BSE in echocardiography (TTE)

  • Extensive cardiac physiology experience post BSE accreditation
  • Ability to perform ultrasound scans to a high standard.
  • Significant experience in educating clinical staff

  • Significant experience of presenting to complex research
  • Up to date and expert knowledge with the latest research in echocardiograph
