This is a Trust-wide role within the clinical education team, responsible for the teaching, training and supervision of new and existing Healthcare Support Workers in the hospital.

The key duties of the role include working alongside staff in clinical and non-clinical environments, supporting patient care and staff skills / knowledge acquisition, pastoral support, training and development, and supervision to ensure Healthcare Support Workers are appropriately supported and developed within their role.

The post-holder will also take an active part in promoting and recruiting to Healthcare Support Worker roles.

This is both a clinical and non-clinical role. The ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians, managers, other Healthcare staff, patients and relatives in a professional manner and to work on own initiative to a high standard are key requirements of this role.

Main duties of the job

To provide, receive and manage complex and/or sensitive information relating to patient care and staff training.

To undertake teaching, training, instruction and provide advice at individual and group level on a range of clinically appropriate topics -- this may require tact or persuasive skills whilst managing any barriers to understanding.

Use a range of communication tools, including verbal, written, electronic and presentations is required.

To provide pastoral support to HCSW and facilitate education and development. Communicate effectively, tactfully, and sensitively with staff, patients, carers and relatives providing factual information, ensuring their dignity, personal wishes and rights are respected.

To maintain patient confidentiality and information governance. Keeping accurate training, competency and audits records, as wells as acting responsibly and present a positive image of self and the Trust by maintain professional attitudes and behaviours.

To teach/mentor and supervise/assess new staff and colleagues within level of own knowledge and expertise. Support the development and delivery of clinical and classroom-based Healthcare Support Worker training which includes the care certificate and manual handling.

In conjunction with the Education team, take part in the Trust clinical induction and education programme for Healthcare Support Workers through a combination of clinical and classroom teaching.

  • Diploma or equivalent appropriate qualification, e.g. CPD Level 1 in H & SC; foundation degree; or NVQ3 level qualification plus short courses or relevant experience or diploma level.

Desirable

  • Care Certificate.

  • Previous experience of working in an acute healthcare environment.
