Specialist Cardiothoracic Pharmacist Rotation
Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
The closing date is 19 May 2024
Job summary
The successful applicant will join our team of Clinical Pharmacists rotating through sub-specialties such as Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Transplantation, Cardiothoracic Critical Care, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Acute Respiratory Care Unit and Sleep Centre. Your preferences are always taken into account when we allocate rotations.
Your development is important to us. Working in a world-renown Cardiothoracic Centre on Europe's largest biomedical campus provides unrivalled opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge and associated professional skills in research, collaboration, and multi-professional leadership. We also recognise the importance of peer networking in achieving best practice and attendance at national Pharmacy events is encouraged.
As a Rotational Pharmacist at a Specialist Centre, you will have the opportunity to gain invaluable peer support from some of the UK's most experienced Highly Specialist Pharmacists in areas such as Pulmonary Hypertension, Cystic Fibrosis and Transplantation; leaders in their field who have presented at international conferences and taught on undergraduate courses. And, with appropriate training, you will be asked to deputise for them in their absence to maintain provision of a safe and effective Clinical Pharmacy service.
Main duties of the job
Most of your day will be spent on the wards providing direct patient care. During your surgical rotation you will also see patients in the multi-disciplinary pre-assessment clinic. In preparation for the future, your Lead Pharmacist will involve you in extended work such as multiprofessional service improvement projects, guideline development and incident investigation.
Working in a team to provide pharmacy services to a directorate allows us to allocate caseload and tasks based on patient acuity and complexity. As well as taking your clinical skills to the next level, you will be expected to support the development of colleagues; mentoring early career pharmacists as part of our buddy system and supervising pharmacy technicians undertaking training in medicines reconciliation and patient counselling.
We expect our Advanced Practice Clinical Pharmacists to be able to make prescribing interventions and will support you to gain the non-medical prescribing qualification if you are not currently a prescriber.
This post is suitable for dedicated and enthusiastic pharmacists with a clinical diploma (those with equivalent experiential training or nearing the end of the diploma will be considered). Pharmacists wishing to transition from non-NHS employment are recommended to contact tinabryan@nhs.net prior to submitting their application.
