Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist cardio-thoracic medical, surgical and transplant centre providing care nationwide. You will be working with patient cohorts including cardiothoracic surgery, transplant, ECMO, respiratory and ventilatory failure

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a therapist who is either looking to commence or further develop their tracheostomy, videofluoroscopy (VFSS) and fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) competencies, alongside managing their own patient caseload. Instrumental assessments are a key part of our care provision and are carried out on patients with a variety of complex needs. You will be working within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team who strive for excellence and innovation, with the patient at the forefront of everything that we do.

  • Degree Speech and Language Therapy
  • Current State Registration with HCPC

Experience

Essential

  • Good presentation skills in both verbal and written form.
  • Good organisational skills including prioritisation.
  • Ability to analyse issues and problem solve.
  • Ability to negotiate with and influence people.
  • Highly developed hearing, concentration and perceptual skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to liaise with professionals at all levels eg discuss complex patient cases
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Current acute experience with an adult caseload relevant to the post.
  • Management of a complex dysphagia caseload.
  • Knowledge of relevant swallowing and communication assessment tools and therapy approaches
  • Knowledge of professional standards including record keeping.
  • An understanding of the roles of other professionals in acute, rehabilitation and community settings.
  • Knowledge of research and audit systems.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to adults.
  • An understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
