Job summary
Are you a skilled Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse with a passion for cardiothoracic care? We're seeking an experienced ODP or RN with relevant qualifications to become an part of our dynamic team!
As a member of our team, you'll serve as a clinical expert in cardiothoracic care, overseeing the anaesthetic team to ensure seamless daily operations and uninterrupted patient care. Your role blends clinical responsibilities with first-line management duties, making a significant impact on patient outcomes and team performance.
Responsibilities include:
Ensuring high-quality care and a safe environment for patients
Managing staff and resources effectively for optimal clinical outcomes
Handling emergencies with skill and expertise
Serving as a mentor and role model for junior colleagues
Providing direct leadership, including staff appraisals and performance management
Driving positive change and fostering a culture of flexibility and patient-centered care
In addition to supporting patients before, during, and after surgery, you'll work with specialised equipment and drugs to ensure safe and effective anaesthesia delivery. Your role extends beyond the operating theatre, facilitating communication between surgical teams and other hospital departments while ensuring smooth patient transitions to critical care or recovery areas.
Main duties of the job
You will act as clinical expert for their speciality and be responsible for direct supervision of the anaesthetic team ensuring that the daily activity flows smoothly and without unnecessary breaks in care delivery. This is a mainly clinical role with first line management elements.
*Professionally accountable and responsible for the high-quality care and a safe environment for patients within their delegated clinical area.
*Manage staff and resources in the safe and effective delivery of clinical care, attempting to problem solve and escalating to the Clinical Leads for Anaesthetics as appropriate.
*Have the skills, knowledge, and expertise to be able to take appropriate action when dealing with emergencies.
*Be a role model to junior colleagues in the delivery of patient care.
*Be responsible for direct leadership of delegated staff, including but not limited to performing staff appraisals and escalating to senior colleagues' areas of poor conduct and/or performance and undertaking appropriate action to support improvement.
*Act as an agent of change in achieving a culture that is flexible and responds positively to the needs of the service and our patients.
*Support the Clinical leadership team in activities related to the improvement of theatre utilisation ensuring effective communication and flow.
