Job summary

Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) is an internationally renowned centre offering specialist care for patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma. We are offering a 1.0 WTE specialist nurse position to join our thriving Thoracic Oncology Service. We are looking for a resourceful, organised and flexible team player who takes pride in their excellent communication skills. The service runs Monday to Friday with no requirement for nights or weekends.

Main duties of the job

The post involves supporting patients and their caregivers. This includes acting as a keyworker for patients during their diagnostic investigations and in the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and clinic settings. The successful applicant will work with Clinical Nurse Specialists and MDT colleagues, including chest physicians, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and administrative support, to provide comprehensive care to patients with a suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis. Surgical investigations and treatments take place at RPH with oncology treatments at referring hospitals. An individualised orientation programme and access to relevant training and education will support professional development.

Experience

  • Prior relevant nursing experience at Band 5 (oncology, thoracic surgery, respiratory, palliative care)
  • Experience of managing own workload and those of others
  • Friendly and supportive with proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate presentation skills
  • Flexible approach to working hours and practices

Desirable

  • Prior thoracic oncology experience at Band 6
  • Knowledge of thoracic oncology conditions, diagnostic tests and treatment options.
