Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced SCP to come and join our team. The candidate must be already practicing at Band 7 or 8 level. We need someone who is professional and highly motivated to provide the SCP team with clinical leadership and innovative in looking at new ways to develop the teams and solidify all the good work that has already been achieved to take this team into the next chapter at Royal Papworth Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Surgical Care Practitioner will work closely within the Consultant cardiac surgical team and perform surgical procedures at an expert level. You will participate in aspects of pre, peri and post-operative patient care under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons ensuring exceptional standards of care.

As a senior SCP you will provide clinical leadership and supervision to all members of the multidisciplinary team and assist with the strategic planning, development, organisation, management, evaluation, and continuity of the SCP service. You will also support an on-call service.

Reporting to the Theatre Manager, you will be skilled in harvesting conduit, including the radial artery, EVH, first and second assisting. You will participate in aspects of pre, peri and post-operative patient care under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for coordinating a comprehensive, integrated service, ensuring visibility and empowering of your teams to develop . Providing specialist clinical skills, leadership and management and will liaise with all relevant professional groups and agencies within and outside the Trust to enhance the delivery of care to our surgical patients.

Essential

  • Qualified Surgical Care Practitioner
  • Specialist knowledge underpinned by degree and postgraduate level training, experience to master's level equivalent.
  • Evidenced of continual personal development
  • Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health and Care Profession Council.

Desirable

  • MSc and/or equivalent qualifications/experience
  • Registered Independent & Supplementary non-medical prescriber or working towards it.

  • Demonstrable significant specialist experience post accreditation
  • Proficient in conduit harvest (long saphenous vein and radial artery)
  • Can provide evidence of effective leadership and developmental work undertaken at senior level.
