An exciting opportunity has arisen within this highly desirable specialist nurse team for a secondment position to cover maternity leave for 9 months. Depending on experience the successful candidate will be offered either a band 6 position or band 7 position.
The heart valve specialist nurse team are a small specialist nurse team with advanced clinical practice skills who work alongside the specialist structural interventional consultants to deliver the planning, treatment, and post procedure care of transcatheter aortic valve implantation for the treatment of aortic stenosis from the first point of referral following the patient pathway delivering specialist nursing skills through to discharge and 6 weeks beyond.
The nursing team are paramount in efficiently managing this commissioned service and work closely with all members of the Cardiology MDT.
The nursing workforce deliver autonomous nurse led clinics which prescribing is incorporated. The nursing team automatously clerk, review, assess and manage all inpatient transcatheter aortic valve patients independently with the support and expertise of the TAVI consultants.
Main duties of the job
Communication & Relationship Skills: Effectively communicate with patients and carers, providing support, information, and counselling. Serve as an advocate for TAVI patients and offer specialist advice and education.
Planning & Organisational Skills: Develop expertise in valve disease, coordinate patient bookings, and prioritise TAVI procedures. Attend relevant meetings and provide ongoing support for patients and carers. Coordinate pre-admission and follow-up clinics, ensuring efficient patient management.
Knowledge, Training & Experience: Take responsibility for professional development and stay updated on cardiac care practices. Contribute to policy development and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
Responsibility for Policy/Service Development: Lead by example, provide clinical education, and support staff. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop care protocols and streamline patient pathways.
Patient/Client Care: Provide specialised nursing care for TAVI patients, conducting comprehensive assessments and developing care plans. Manage pre-admission and follow-up clinics, refer patients to appropriate services, and promote patient self-care.
Responsibility for Research & Development: Participate in quality improvement, audit, and research activities. Maintain a register of TAVI patients and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions. Contribute to service planning and budgeting processes based on audit data and specialist knowledge.
