Job summary

This is a 1 year fixed term post in the first instance to provide administrative and technical assistance to our research pathology service.

Royal Papworth is committed to providing expert laboratory support for research studies in heart/lung transplantation, cardio-thoracic and respiratory disease specialist areas and has its own active Research Tissue Bank.

This is a great opportunity for gaining laboratory skills, working knowledge of the Human Tissue Act, as well taking on responsibility for various tasks such as invoicing, maintenance of research databases, managing service equipment and project reagents.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will work closely with investigators and research staff.

The role includes administrative responsibilities to support the Pathology/Tissue Bank research service and technical skills to support research studies with sample processing.

You will require good communication skills, self-management and time management skills and excellent attention to detail. The post holder will need to be comfortable liaising with external contacts from other NHS Trusts, universities, commercial collaborators and suppliers.

  • Experience of database systems
  • Keyboard skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft office software

  • Experience of working in a healthcare related environment
  • Previous experience of working in an environment dealing with confidential data
