Job summary

The successful candidate will be to be a key & dynamic member of the Cardiac Physiology Team, at the complex healthcare scientist level. They will be using their insight & knowledge to provide complex technical/scientific expertise for all areas of invasive Cardiology.

Areas of focus will include independently delivering diagnostic & complex interventional angiography, including on-call for the primary PCI service & the CRM service.

The post holder will be working towards independence in complex pacing implants & follow-up (CRT-P, ICD & CRT-D), both on & off site

Working towards Independently covering structural & valvular cardiology such as ASD closures & TAVI would be desirable in this post.

Work in non-invasive areas as required, including Holter analysis, physiology-led exercise tests, perfusion stress testing, remote monitoring of implantable loop recorders and tilt testing

The role is predominantly a scientific one & as such the post holder will be expected to have an intermediate level of skill & autonomy. The post holder will be expected to be able to carry out complex scientific & clinical roles, including those working directly with patients. Also, to analyse, interpret & compare investigative & clinical options at a mid-complexity level.

There is an oncall commitment with this role.

Main duties of the job

They will be able to maintain the patient at the centre of all their decision-making processes, conforming to all the National Health Service constitution pledges. They will need to behave with integrity, honest & probity, with good scientific practice as their foundation.

They will be expected to take on an area of non-clinical duties within the service such as education, e-rostering, procurement, Standard Operating Procedure or incident issues.

They will have a clinical proficiency in a range of complex & advanced clinical & scientific investigations & treatments & be able to Independently perform, interpret & report a range of mid complex clinical investigations & treatments including a range of cardiac rhythm devices.

Deliver an advanced and skilled management of cardiac arrest situations. Technical leadership in the use of temporary pacing, Inter Aortic Balloon Pump, defibrillation, and Intermediate Life Support protocols during cardiac arrest situations and highly pressurised complex cases.

  • BSc Clinical Cardiac Science or equivalent

Desirable

  • MSc Cardiac Science
  • Registered with RCCP or registration with the AHCS as a Cardiac Scientist.

Experience

Essential

  • Diagnostic and interventional angiography, including on-call for the primary PCI service and adjunctive technologies such as IVUS,OCT and Pressure wire
  • Have a confident knowledge of the Anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the heart.
  • Extensive Cardiac Physiology experience post qualification at BSc or equivalent level.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Has innovation, enthusiasm and wants to be actively involved in development of the Cardiac Physiology service.
  • Able to work and transport equipment to hospitals within the region.
  • Ability to participate in on call rota.

  • Structural cardiology such as TAVI and ASD closures.
  • Electrophysiology procedures, including 3D mapping using the latest technologies and software.
  • On call experience
