Job summary

5 North is a 41-bedded ward, which is on the cutting edge of technology, providing surgical experience for staff caring for patients undergoing pioneering cardiac surgery as well as heart and lung transplantation. Some of the cardiac surgeries patients undergo are: CABG, Mitral Valve Surgery, Aortic Valve Surgery, Aortic Surgery. You may experience patients with Ventricular Assist Devices which act as a bridge for some patients on the heart transplant waiting list. 5 North is in the process of developing a 4-bedded PCU area set within the existing ward for patients requiring a higher level of nursing intervention.

5 South is a 41-bedded ward, which specialises in innovating thoracic and cardiac surgery. Some of the thoracic surgeries patients undergo and patients 5 South care for are: Complex lung resections, Lung volume reduction, Chest wall surgery, Pectus surgery, Airway surgery, Mediastinum surgery, Metastectomy surgery, PTE, Thoracic sarcoma, investigation and management of pleural diseases. The team treats local, national and international patients, sometimes taking on cases that have been turned down elsewhere. Royal Papworth Hospital has some of the best outcomes nationally and internationally and is one of the biggest centres for lung reduction surgery and is also a world-leader in minimally invasive surgery.

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Cardio-Thoracic Nursing Team on Wards 5 North and 5 South.

One of the main duties will be to provide a high standard of patient centred and evidence-based care for the individual needs of our patients and their families, this in consultation with multidisciplinary team.

You do not need experience in cardio-thoracic nursing to apply. We are keen to recruit staff to join our team who will share our vision, enthusiasm and pride in the care we deliver.
