Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for you within our Day Ward department for a band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge nurse. Our Day Ward is a busy nurse-led unit in which you will have a high volume and fast turnover of patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic investigations and procedures.

We are looking for a proficient staff nurse with at least 2 years post registration experience with experience within a Cardiology/Thoracic ward setting. This post requires excellent communication skills, and tact and diplomacy are essential when dealing with patients and their relatives as well as other members of the multidisciplinary team.

This is a time pressurised environment. You must be a team player who is well organised but flexible and who is able to deal with ever changing priorities. You will be able to demonstrate leadership skills and support the team in developing the services that we provide.

Main duties of the job

Take charge of the day to day management of day ward and discharge lounge, within the framework of the multidisciplinary team, acting as an effective role model, ensuring junior staff are supported at all times.
