Job summary

A new role has arisen for a highly motivated, clinically registered individual (e.g., nurse or Allied Health Professional) to be our Patient Safety Lead. You will lead on elements of the National Patient Safety Strategy, such as the development of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) for the Trust.

What can you expect from us? As part of the Clinical Governance team, we can promise you a supportive working environment that will value your contribution and welcome your ideas. You will be an influential voice in shaping and delivering on the NHS patient safety agenda (PSIRF) with our three clinical divisions. We are also committed to supporting the health and well-being of all members of our team, helping our people to maintain a healthy work life balance through a range of flexible working options.

What are we looking for from you? Most importantly, you will be someone who shares our values and is committed to supporting clinical safety in the Trust and maintaining Outstanding Care, Personally Delivered. You will have a wide range of clinical experience, knowledge of incident and risk management principles (investigation techniques), but more important than previous experience is the capability and willingness to learn. You will want to make a difference to the people who rely on our services.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Safety Lead will have the overall clinical leadership of all aspects of patient safety and incident management functions to support the delivery of high quality, safe care for all who use the Trusts services.

You will contribute to the Trusts overall patient safety arrangements, supported by the Risk Manager. You will support and provide clinical guidance to clinicians/managers to ensure safe, quality services can be achieved, and deliver a framework of integrated governance for the Trust in a co-ordinated, systematic, transparent, and focused way.

You will be responsible for the co-ordination, implementation and continuous development of a patient safety environment and culture, through the effective oversight of the day-to-day management of systems and mechanisms to support the reporting of, and investigations of incidents, including serious incidents.

You will lead, co-ordinate and implement national directives in relation to the strategic direction of clinical governance, in line with the NHS Patient Safety Strategy (2019) and implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).

The post holder will be responsible for the effective leadership of the Trusts Incident and Risk team and deputise for the Clinical Governance Manager (as requested), including occasional attendance at the Trust Coroner inquests.
