Job summary

This is an exciting new role in the Corporate Governance team at Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

We are looking for someone experienced in executive support and team management who demonstrates values-driven, compassionate leadership to ensure a well-led team who are encouraged and supported to achieve the highest standards of service delivery and create an excellent working environment.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of corporate governance functions, processes and structures to ensure their smooth running and also identify and implement change and improvement initiatives that develop or strengthen the governance arrangements of the Trust, or which make them more efficient or impactful.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are the leadership and management of the Executive Support Officers and providing a comprehensive, high-level, professional and confidential administration service to nominated directors.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

Leadership and management of the Executive Support Officers involving:

  • Planning and managing capacity of the team
  • Personal and professional development of the team
  • Identifying new ways of working and encouraging others to do the same, and lead on projects to deliver service improvement.

Provide a high-level, professional administration service to directors, providing a broad range of supporting duties including:

  • Organisation of a range of complex activities ensuring directors are fully briefed and prepared on all matters pertaining to their respective responsibilities to deliver their individual objectives as part of the wider corporate agenda.
  • Forging strong links with the executive, executive support and corporate governance team members through excellent communication and collaboration and develop effective relationships with senior stakeholders within the organisation and across the wider system.
  • Being organised, efficient, business-like and politically astute, and committed to high standards of professional support. Working proactively, taking the initiative and working effectively with minimal direction.
  • Exercising sound judgement in a variety of complex situations, possessing strong written and verbal communication abilities, an analytical and problem-solving mindset, and the ability to manage a varied workload of multiple competing priorities.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of corporate governance roles and processes, preferably in an NHS or wider public sector context or other large complex organisation

Experience

  • A minimum of two years' experience working at supervisor/manager level within an office/administration environment
  • Significant previous experience providing direct support at Director and/or Board level in a large organisation (including diary and inbox management at Executive Director level)
  • Can demonstrate achievement of successfully introducing and managing projects/change programmes using a collaborative and inclusive approach

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to quickly turn round accurate minutes which accurately capture complex and sensitive discussions and are suitable for public/internal audiences as appropriate
  • Ability to develop and nurture effective working relationships with colleagues, key stakeholders and partner organisations
