Job summary

Following a successful internal promotion, we are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic leader to join our Safeguarding Team as a Named Professionals for Safeguarding.

Our Named Professionals are passionate about safeguarding children and adults at risk, working in a fast paced, forward thinking, dedicated team that is committed to working closely with colleagues both internally and externally to deliver the safeguarding agenda across all YAS services.

The Trust is committed to investing in Safeguarding development and this opportunity will give the right candidates exposure to complex operational and strategic safeguarding in an emergency care setting, developing and enhancing a range of skills needed to flourish as a Named Professional.

The successful candidates will be supported by and will work closely alongside the three existing Named Professionals to provide a consistent and cohesive regional wide response

As a Safeguarding Named Professional, you will support and drive the vision of safeguarding within Yorkshire Ambulance Service and be committed to delivering the highest quality outcomes in your day-to-day work & supporting the wider Trust vision and values.

Main duties of the job

You will be specifically involved in supporting the Head of Safeguarding in all aspects of their role, in order to:

- Maintain and assure that Yorkshire Ambulance Service discharges its statutory duty in relation to safeguarding and prevent across the regional platform for Yorkshire and the Humber.

- Manage operational safeguarding within Yorkshire Ambulance Service through effective process, practice, procedures, safeguarding training and supervision.- Support and progress the strategic direction of safeguarding, acting as subject matter expert to interpret national policy into best practice locally.

- Contribute to and build strong effective relationships with all multi agency partners and external stakeholders in relation to the Safeguarding agenda.

- Contribute to the audit of safeguarding practice to ensure it remains compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

- Provide safeguarding subject matter expertise in relation all aspects of safeguarding and prevent including safeguarding allegations.

The successful candidate will need to be adaptable, innovative and have excellent communication and IT skills. Be knowledgeable about safeguarding issues and feel confident to provide evidence based advice and support to colleagues. Be able to challenge poor safeguarding practices within a multi-agency setting and act as an advocate for children & adults at risk.

  • Registered professional on Part 1 of the NMC register as a Registered Children's Nurse/Adult Nurse/Mental Health Nurse or Part 3 as a Specialist Community Public Health nurse or registered as an Allied Health Professional with the HCPC.
  • Educated to degree level or an equivalent professional qualification

Desirable

  • Accredited qualification and experience in Safeguarding Supervision
  • Post graduate training in safeguarding specialism at Masters level (level 4/5)

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of three years post qualification experience - working across the health economy, in a leadership/advisory role.
  • Experience of working in a clinical setting with operational responsibility for Safeguarding cases.
  • Experience of multiagency working in child and adult safeguarding cases
  • Evidence of delivering Safeguarding strategies, actions plans and evaluation
  • Experience of leadership and management of staff

Desirable

  • Able to review services and make recommendations that contribute to change, that will improve outcomes for children and adults at risk.
  • Experience of managing difficult conversations
