Dental Nurses
At Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS), we are all about patient care and making a difference to someone's life.
You will need to be a Registered Dental Nurse with the General Dental Council and hold (or be working towards) a NEBDN approved qualification.In the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) Service, we work around the clock receiving 111 calls from patients who need our help and advice.As a Dental Nurse for IUC you will be responsible for ensuring that the calls you deal with are delivered safely, consistently and to an high quality standard.
We have vacancies at both our Wakefield and Rotherham (Wath-upon-Dearne) Call Centres.Working Hours/RotaCore working hours are 0800-2000hrs Monday to Sunday and we have a variety of hours available - 15,18, (Weekend only)24 or 30 hours per week. You will be expected to work six out of eight public holidays as well as three weekends out of four.

This role requires you to undertake 11 weeks of mandatory training, you will be offered a fixed term contract for this period. After you have successfully completed your training, you will then be issued with a permanent contract of employment.
Main duties of the job
You will have a strong customer service focus with effective listening, good verbal and written communication skills and IT skills combined with the ability to deal with complex, sensitive and sometimes distressing information.You will need to be dedicated to always care for our patients with compassion and professionalism.
You will assess the health and clinical needs of dental patients, utilising your professional clinical judgement, supported by decision support software. This requires generalist and specialist skills to assess and deliver care to patients across all age groups in a call centre environment.
You will also be required to be the first point of contact for patients, patients' relatives, healthcare professionals and other callers calling 111 who do not have a dental issue. Using NHS Pathways to record patients' demographics and basic clinical information you will assess their condition and ensure they are directed to the most appropriate healthcare professional or end disposition.
You will provide assessment, medication advice, and health information to patients calling 111, supporting them to access the appropriate level of care including advice to manage their symptoms at home.
Sometimes these calls can be challenging, and you will need to remain calm, quickly assess the situation with the assistance of our NHS Pathways software tool and signpost patients to the most appropriate healthcare service for their needs.
