Job summary
The Trust is looking for a talented individual to join our finance team as a Financial Accountant within Financial Services and Accounts team.
We are looking to recruit a driven individual who is committed to working as part of the finance team to support the organisation's ambitious commitment to service excellence.
The post holder must:
- be able to evidence significant VAT knowledge, specifically as applicable to the NHS; and
- be a CCAB or CIMA professionally qualified accountant or in the final professional stages of qualification
This post will be an integral part of the team, supporting and deputising for the Financial Accounting and Reporting Manager in the provision of technical accounting expertise and services, ensuring the Trust's financial accounting is accurate and compliant with all statutory requirements, through monitoring and maintaining key financial controls over the Trust's Statement of Financial Position.
The Trust operates a flexible Hybrid working pattern, whilst the base may still be Wakefield HQ, we encourage staff to be flexible which may require working remotely for a proportion of the time.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is professionally accountable to the Financial Accounting and Reporting Manager. Working autonomously using and interpreting accounting standards, relevant legislation and the NHS financial framework the post holder will have the ability to assess risks, recognising when escalation is appropriate.

- contribute to the review and development of existing finance systems; suggesting procedures to drive efficiency and innovation.
- oversight of, and responsible for procedures, financial governance controls and balances in own area of responsibility.
- preparation, completion and submission of NHS routine and ad hoc accounts and AOB returns.
- responsible for day-to-day co-ordination and lead technical contact for VAT issues, provide VAT guidance for end users as appropriate, completion and submission of the monthly VAT return.
- support the completions of routine and ad hoc financial returns.
- providing a key point of contact for budget holders and other finance colleagues.
- line management duties for the accounts assistant and when directed others within the team; encourage, inspire, lead and motivate to ensure effective leadership management and staff development.
