Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the People and OD Department within the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. The role of the ER Assistant is a good career step for anyone wanting to develop your generic HR practice in a health care setting, supporting the delivery of excellent patient care.

You will develop your knowledge and experience to provide a comprehensive administrative support service, providing Human Resources advice and supporting, respect of HR policies and procedures and Terms and Conditions of Service. Working across our diverse team you will gain exposure to the core HR teams including Employee Relations, HR Information systems, Diversity and Inclusion, and Recruitment teams to deliver an efficient HR Service.

Main duties of the job

If you have previous experience of working in a fast paced organisation, are a strong team player and are competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications then this could be the role for you. Human resources experience along with experience of using HR information systems (e.g. ESR) would be an advantage too.

Duties include:

  • To provide a customer focused and effective Human Resource service for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
  • To provide administrative support for the employee relations team.
  • To offer HR support and administrative tasks relating to the delivery of a professional, customer focused HR service for the Trust.
  • Support the production of timely and accurate information.

Job responsibilities

To be successful in this role you must have excellent communication skills, be able to develop strong working relationships and have the ability to prioritise a demanding workload in order to meet strict deadlines.

  • This role will also include providing first line HR advice to colleagues and managers on NHS policies and procedures, employee relations issues and more general day to day advice regarding terms and conditions of employment and contractual queries.
  • You will work on a variety of IT applications including our HR portal, Electronic Staff Record (ESR) and Microsoft Office packages.
  • Provide efficient, effective and customer focused first line HRadvice and transactional/administrative services as set out inrelevant department, organisation and NHS policies andprocedures.
  • Process change forms and ensure all changes are entered ontoESR in a timely manner and that revised statements of terms andconditions and/or amendment to contract letters are issued withinagreed timescales
  • Administer all necessary post-employment checks e.g. DBS,professional registration, driving licence etc. ensuring adherence toTrust HR procedures, NHS Employment Checks Standards andrelevant legislation
  • Direct more complex queries to the appropriate HR BusinessPartner ER advisor
  • Ensure that a positive impression of the organisation is given in allinteractions that the team has with customers. This meansensuring that there is high quality, customer focusedcommunication with line managers and individual employees.
  • Open departmental post and distribute as appropriate.
  • Ensure all filing paper and electronic is kept up to date and filedappropriately.
  • Provide administrative support to the ER advisory team .
  • Arrange and attend departmental meetings, grievance anddisciplinary hearings, etc. as required.
