Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Healthcare Support Worker

The closing date is 13 June 2025

Job summary

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the lead provider for perinatal services for the Yorkshire and Humber provider collaborative which goes live in April 2025. In autumn 2025 there will be a further bed expansion to the existing and only mother and baby unit in Yorkshire and Humber, which will allow for inpatient care to be provided for mothers and their infants closer to their home.

As part of this exciting expansion of our Mother and Baby Unit at The Mount in Leeds, we are looking for compassionate, dedicated, and skilled professionals to join our team. As we grow, we aim to continue providing the highest standard of care to mothers and their infants in a supportive and nurturing environment.

"Our goal is to work together to improve mental health care for new mums and their families. We want every woman to get the right care, at the right time, in the best place for both her and her baby. By partnering with families and other services, we're committed to making sure everyone across Yorkshire and Humber has equal access to the support they need."

As a service we are committed to providing regular and good quality supervision to our staff. We offer a comprehensive induction package, and staff have the opportunity to undertake specialist perinatal mental health training both internally and externally.

An interest in women's mental health and the particular needs of the infant where the primary care giver is suffering from a significant illness is essential.

Main duties of the job

As a health care support worker on the Mother and Baby Unit, the successful candidate would be working with a multidisciplinary team on 24 hour shift basis under the supervision of a qualified nurse.

The responsibilities of the health care support worker include day to day support of both mothers and babies, following prescribed nursing interventions from treatment plans, assisting in the delivery of the unit therapeutic programme, close liaison with extended members of the multidisciplinary team, assisting with enhanced engagement and observation and accompanying service users and their infants on trips into the local community. We value staff of all disciplines and as such we hope that the successful candidate would contribute to the ongoing service development and improvement. The successful candidate would be expected to be able to work well as part of a team, but also to be motivated and self-directed.
