Job summary

Are you passionate about recovery in serious mental illness, looking for a new challenge and want to be part of exciting new developments? Then look no further.....We are looking to recruit a Band 3 Support Worker who is compassionate, creative, and flexible in their approach to delivering individualised, person-centred care. The successful applicant will have an excellent understanding of the principles of recovery and will practice clinically in a way that promotes therapeutic optimism and hope with service users.

Ward 5, located at the Newsam Centre in Leeds, is a 17 bedded Level 2 high intensity rehabilitation service that delivers rehabilitation and recovery to male service users with enduring mental illness. The service provides a holistic, psychologically-informed approach to support service users in developing their life skills, independence and hope for the future in a way that is meaningful to them, in the least restrictive way possible, with a focus on individual strengths.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will be encouraged and supported to develop your own specialist skills, knowledge and competence through participation, reflection, supervision and training, with a strong focus on service improvement and individual professional development planning. The service is currently undergoing exciting development and transformation, and we would particularly welcome applications from those who hold additional skills in recovery-focused psychological interventions, or who wish to acquire and develop these skills.Staff are expected to work a full range of shifts across a 24hr, 7-day shift pattern which includes nights and weekends.

Please note in summer 2025 the service will be relocated to our own redeveloped site located at Parkside Lodge, Stanningley Road, Armley, Leeds.

To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users.

To work on a 1:1 or in groups with service users facilitating therapeutic activities both ward based and in the community.

To participate in the observation and engagement of service users on a shift-by-shift basis, under the direction of registered staff. This will include responding to and reporting issues relating to risk, particularly where there is an immediate need to evaluate a treatment plan/risk management plan.

To contribute to the maintenance of a therapeutic environment and to be proactive in developing positive links within the community that will enhance the service user experience

To raise awareness of recovery language with Trust staff by modelling positive strengths based, non-discriminatory, non- jargon, non-medicalised language in all areas of work.

Involvement in the process of effective risk management including assessment, planning, intervention, and ongoing monitoring of risk factors.

To assist with Service Users and members of the Multidisciplinary Team to formulate and implement individualised plan of care.
