Job summary
As the Head of Nursing (which includes nursing, nursing associates and support workers) you will provide strategic, professional, collective, clinical and operational nursing leadership across LYPFT through effective leadership and role modelling. The Post holder will have responsibility to ensure care is safe, effective, up-to-date and evidence based, reflecting the Chief Nursing Officer's Strategic Plan for Nursing,
The Head of Nursing will provide assurance of quality standards in relation to patient safety and regulation and will provide professional advice and challenge. The post holder will provide ward to board assurance with regards to learning from incidents, risk management, where significant harm has occurred and will lead on key programmes of work to improve patient safety across the organisation. This will also include providing the regulators, Place and ICB with relevant information to support evidence that care is delivered in accordance with care standards.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for providing advice to the Trust on matters relating to Nursing.

Job responsibilities
The Head of Nursing (which includes nursing, nursing associates and support workers) will provide strategic, professional, collective, clinical and operational nursing leadership across LYPFT through effective leadership and role modelling. The post holder will provide professional leadership in mental health and learning disability services to enable services to respond effectively to the challenges it will face, whilst providing effective and efficient clinical services with sustained improvements. The Post holder will have responsibility to ensure care is safe, effective, up-to-date and evidence based, reflecting the Chief Nursing Officers Strategic Plan for Nursing, including the 7 Ps vision for nursing.
The Head of Nursing will provide assurance of quality standards in relation to patient safety and regulation. This will include working with and providing professional advice and challenge to the Clinical Leads. The post holder will provide ward to board assurance with regards to learning from incidents, risk management, where significant harm has occurred and will lead on key programmes of work to improve patient safety across the organisation. This will also include providing the regulators, Place and ICB with relevant information to support evidence that care is delivered in accordance with care standards.
The Head of Nursing will be a credible leader in the care of patients with mental ill health and learning disabilities and will influence external policy and procedures as required
The Head of Nursing will be an expert resource for staff, patients, carers and governors. The post holder will also support the Deputy Director of nursing in all professional nursing elements across the organisation. You will role model high professional standards, behaviours and attitudes; raising the profile of the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and their implications for nursing practice.
The Head of Nursing will be a skilled communicator, able to communicate highly complex and sensitive information at all levels across mental health and learning disability services. They will foster strong relationships across all LYPFT services as well as externally in the wider system.
You will have line management responsibility for the Professional Lead Nurses and the Professional Practice Lead.
The post holder will liaise with the Head of Clinical Governance, Head of Patient Experience, Complaints and Legal services, Professional Lead Nurse Infection Control Lead Nurse and Physical Health Lead Nurse, Head of Safeguarding, Clinical Leads, to ensure the implementation of risk identification and reduction measures within the service lines.
