Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to take up a permanent new post as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist within two Memory Assessment Services (MAS), offering specialist neuropsychological assessment, psychological formulation, team consultation and training. An important part of this role will be supporting professional colleagues to apply knowledge of cognitive deficits and holistic formulation to clinical cases. The MAS's work closely with CMHT's and the successful postholder will be a resource to that team as well in understanding and working with people living with dementia, including the later stages and Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). There will be opportunities to provide supervision for both psychologists in training and other professionals within the service, as well as getting involved with service development and evaluation. Supervision for clinical work will be provided internally by staff with expertise and experience in the above areas of work.
Main duties of the job
The post would suit an early career psychologist interested in further developing neuropsychological skills and the person would be offered support to acquire further qualifications such as the PGDip in Clinical Neuropsychology (subject to recurrent funding via the Psychological Professions Initiatives funding). The successful post holder will join a professional group of 21 Psychological Practitioners dedicated to excellent service provision for older people, including those experiencing cognitive impairment in later life. The overall purpose of this role is to contribute to the systematic provision of a high quality, specialist clinical/counselling psychology service to Service Users within OPS Memory Assessment Services. Clinical input will focus on providing specialist psychological assessments to aid differential diagnosis of dementia. There will also be input into CMHTs to support staff working with people in the later stages of dementia, presenting with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). Other role requirements include:
- To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a SU's dementia and/or mental health problems
- To be responsible for providing advice, consultation, supervision and teaching
- To identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice
- To undertake project management with support from senior colleagues, including complex audit and service evaluation to help develop service provision.
- To provide specialist psychological assessments based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including neuropsychological tests, self-report and carer measures, and complex psychological assessments. This will include digital methods of neuropsychological assessment
- To share confidential clinical information, both written and verbal, with other health care professionals as appropriate. This includes offering opinions, advice and consultation about neuropsychological findings and specialist psychotherapy and psychological interventions to health professionals from a range of backgrounds
- To undertake complex risk assessment and risk management for individual SUs and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management
- To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

- To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the teams operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit
