Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Deaf CAMHS to be part of our new 18-25 Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service. Deaf CAMHS is a child and adolescent mental health service for children and young people up to the age of 18 who have severe to profound hearing loss. We also work with children and young people who have BSL as their first language and children and young people (hearing or deaf) who have deaf parents. The 18-25 service is a 24-month pilot service based in York for young adults meeting Deaf CAMHS criteria aged 18-25 who live within Yorkshire & Humber. The service will offer specialised assessments and recommendations to referrers, young people, and other professionals. The aim is to identify the demand for such assessments and address the current service provision gap, providing evidence for future commissioning.

We are looking to recruit a motivated Clinical Psychologist to make a significant contribution to this new pilot service. The role will involve being part of a bilingual (British Sign Language/English) MDT, undertaking assessment and formulation and providing recommendations and signposting on the bases of these specialist assessments. The post holder will play a valuable role in the development of the service and be able to work innovatively and creatively. The post holder will be supported in their professional development by the Consultant Psychologist within Deaf CAMHS.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a bilingual (British Sign Language/English) team at the Deaf CAMHS York outreach service in the 18-25's Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service. This is a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Specialist Deaf Outreach Workers (SDOW), a Team Secretary, a Clinical Psychologist, a Clinical Team Interpreter and a Specialist Practitioner. Support and co-ordination of this service will be provided by the Clinical Team Manager, a Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist, a Consultant Psychologist, a Deaf Service Consultant, a Clinical Lead, the Operational Manager and the Head of Operations Manager.

The post holder will provide input into this service in the form of specialist clinical psychology assessments, formulation, and recommendations for treatment and signposting, as well as writing reports and providing feedback to young people and families. The post-holder will contribute to regular team meetings and attend any training necessary to carry out the role including BSL training. The post-holder will be required to work flexibly across pathways of care and in a variety of community settings, case-dependent, across Yorkshire and Humber.

National Deaf CAMHS (Northern Arm), offers a service across the North of England and has 3 outreach teams. These are based in York, Newcastle & Manchester. The post holder will join a new part of the service - 18-25's Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service. This service, based in York, will be for young adults aged 18-25 who live within Yorkshire & Humber

This pilot service will run for 24 months, offering specialised assessments and recommendations to referrers, young people, and other professionals. The post holder will communicate with numerous internal and external individuals, teams and services, including fellow psychotherapists and psychologists, CMHTs, Inpatient wards, Social Services and third sector organisations. The type of communication will include highly sensitive, confidential, complex and technical information.

The post will be line managed by service manager and professionally managed by the Consultant Psychologist within the substantive Deaf CAMHS service. Clinical supervision will be arranged after appointment.
