Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a very experienced, highly competent and motivated Pharmacy Technician to lead our technical workforce and work with partners across the city, ICS and regionally/ nationally.

With a proven track record of successfully leading a team you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of technical pharmacy services across the Trust (inpatients and community), embracing new and innovative ways of working, with a focus on patient-centred care, staff engagement and continuous improvement.

You will represent Trust Pharmacy Services working collaboratively with partners across the system to support the ongoing development of the technical and wider pharmacy workforce, also on care pathway, medicines supply and other workstreams.

The successful candidate will be an inspirational individual with excellent organisational, leadership and interpersonal skills with a flexible approach, committed to providing high quality compassionate care to people with mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Whilst previous experience in this field is desirable it is not essential provided you have a keen interest and are committed to developing your knowledge and skills in this area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder has line management responsibility for lead pharmacy technicians and other senior staff and overall responsibility for further developing and supporting our well established, friendly,

hardworking and highly valued technical team

The post holder must be able to travel between Trust sites. Our standard service hours are 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday with all staff providing occasional weekend/ Bank holiday cover. We support staff to work in an agile/ flexible way, applications from those wishing to work slightly less than full time hours and job shares considered.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Working at a strategic level to provide professional leadership and management of medicines management services and the technical pharmacy workforce, encouraging innovative practice and ensuring compliance with professional standards and statute.
  • Represent Trust Pharmacy Services/ medicines management at a Leeds, ICS and national level (for example workforce, medicines supply, interface and care pathways work).
  • Work collaboratively with external partners to support the ongoing development of the technical and wider pharmacy workforce through the provision of education, training and development opportunities.
  • Provide overall operational and strategic leadership of the technical aspects of the pharmacy service ie medicines supply and ward/ unit based medicines management technician services. Ensure Trust policy is followed and that practice is underpinned with written procedure/ guidance. This includes ensuring there are effective systems in place to organise, manage and supervise safe, efficient service provision, assessing the service using audits and/ or performance indicators and providing the require assurance.
  • Support and develop staff to ensure they are competent, motivated and optimally deployed across inpatient and community-based services and continue to develop in role.
  • Work closely with (leading on the medicines supply/ management aspects), and deputise for, the
    • Medicines Safety Officer at Trust and system level meetings.
    • Senior manager responsibility for the pharmacy stock management/ dispensing system.
    • As a member of the Senior Pharmacy Management team:
      • Set the strategic direction and assist in the strategic development and performance management of the Pharmacy Service ensuring the provision of high-quality patient focused pharmaceutical care and effective medicines management and delivery of the services strategic objectives.
      • Support/ lead on operational and strategic workforce development, transformational initiatives for improved service delivery and the health and wellbeing of staff
      • identify business and productivity opportunities and support/ lead on their implementation.
    • Work directly with/ oversee the delivery of key medicines optimisation and transformation projects, ensuring key deliverables are achieved within dedicated time frames.
    • Line management and supervision responsibility for senior technical and other staff.
    • To practice as a registered pharmacy technician when occasionally providing pharmaceutical services, including participation in weekend/ public holiday rotas.
