Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Team Interpreter working with the Deaf CAMHS Newcastle team; working 7.5 hours per week.

As the clinical team interpreter, you will be working within an established team of mental health practitioners working with deaf children and their families. You will be involved in clinical work such as initial appointments, assessments and therapy sessions.

There is also potential opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a specific area of interest e.g. full team assessments or family therapy. You will have access to both managerial and professional supervision.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a range of sign language interpreting tasks for deaf and hearing people in a variety of settings as required

  • To facilitate communication between users of English and BSL within a mental health setting.
  • To provide a high level of interpreting skills
  • Be willing to travel to other sites if needed
  • Contribute and oversee policy and procedure in relation to working with interpreters in the NDCAMHS service
  • Sight translation and interpretation of letters and information into BSL
  • To work with other communication professionals such as; deaf interpreters and advocates where necessary to ensure, as far as possible, that the client is able to access and understand communication and to make themselves fullyunderstood
  • To observe all aspects of the NRCDP Code of Conduct with particular regard to the maintenance of confidentiality (within the boundaries of reasonable organisational responsibility)
  • To engage in supervision effectively and continue developing their professional role

  • Holds a recognised BSL/English Interpreter qualification (MRSLI) or equivalent
  • Registered with a recognised BSL/Interpreter body.
  • A commitment to continuing Professional Development and Peer support & attending supervision - Willing to attend regular supervisions, relevant training and CPD/Away Days

Experience

  • Experience of interpreting in health/mental health settings including in the community / clinical sessions (both face to face and by videocall).
