Job summary

LYPFT are looking for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, who has experience of and a strong interest in working with people who have unusual experiences, to work across two specialist psychosis services. The post will provide experience in community and inpatient care. The Assertive Outreach service is a well - established city wide service consisting of two teams which offers the opportunity to work alongside an MDT providing ongoing, long term support for people experiencing complex difficulties. Ward 5 is an 18 bedded (locked) complex rehab ward for men where the aim is to work therapeutically with service users to reduce their risks to themselves or others whilst increasing their levels of engagement and independence. Both teams value the role of the psychologist.

This role offers the opportunity to join us in a development post, which will offer you a clear pathway to achieving the experience, skills and knowledge required to secure the higher end role/pay band, within the team once the agreed competencies have been met. You will be provided with a supportive learning environment for a defined period, which is designed to help you meet the requirements of the higher end role. The post can be offered direct to 8A if candidates can demonstrate eligible skills and experience at interview". *Bandings are included as an example.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a developing and supportive psychology team which also includes the Rehab and Recovery service. This will be an exciting and varied role including opportunities for individual therapy, team-based formulations, facilitating training, consultations with the team, groupwork as well as opportunities to contribute to key strategic service developments like trauma informed care. You will be involved in influencing at a team level with opportunities to lead on innovative projects or research to meet the needs of service users. For example, we have recently won a grant from Health Education England to provide a training package in trauma informed care for the support workers across the service. Personal development is also highly valued and supported within the service.

An interest and skills in supporting professional colleagues to develop and use psychological thinking in their work with service users presenting with complex and severe mental health problems will be a key part of this role. Experience of and training in supervision is important as the role involves provision of supervision to psychologists in training and other professionals within the service. You will have a good understanding of CBTp and the current evidence base for psychological interventions in psychosis and/or have an interest in developing family work in the services, as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

To provide a qualified clinical psychology service to service users (SUs) and carers accessing the Assertive Outreach service and ward 5 complex rehab ward. This involves working across two community teams and one inpatient rehab ward.

To work autonomously and make appropriate decisions without opportunity to consult more widely.

To provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy, to offer advice and consultation on SUs psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non - professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Care Group policies and procedures.

To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the service area. To provide a key role in psychological aspects of service development in service areas of primary responsibility.

The post can be offered either as part time in one of the teams or as a full time combining them both.

Successful completion of post-graduate doctorate level or masters level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology. Training course to be accredited with the British Psychological Society and registration with HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist.

Experience

Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
Experience in developing relationships and working with teams

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for complex presentations
Further training in relevant therapeutic model for this client group
