Job summary
Due to promotions both within the service and wider Trust for the current post holders, we have an excitingopportunity for two Band 8a (or 7-8a preceptorship) level psychologists to join our Forensic Psychology Team. Thesuccessful candidates will be based within either the men's acute assessment and treatment ward; or thewomen's assessment/ treatment and rehabilitation ward at our York site. The service takes a trauma-informedbiopsychosocial approach to understanding service user's presentations and risks, formulating behaviours asdriven by unmet needs, and informing a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to treatment with a focus onrecovery. There is also a forensic outreach and liaison service that the successful applicant may input to,supporting transitions from the inpatient service to the community.We are committed to supporting continued professional development, with a number of our team accessingfurther accredited training in therapy modalities (including CBT and EMDR) and leadership programmes.We would consider applications from trainee psychological practitioners qualifying in September 2023.Informal enquiries and visits are encouraged.Please contact Elaine McMullan (elainemcmullan@nhs.net; 07415 627909)
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist psychological services to the staff and service users on the low secure wards and forensic community teams. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and treating their own specialist caseload of clients and to maintain associated records. The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other psychologists, assistant psychologists and non-psychologists within the service. They will provide leadership to the psychology team on the site they are based. They will have the skills and experience to work autonomously and make appropriate decisions without opportunity to consult more widely at times. The post holder will conduct psychologically informed risk assessments and formulations alongside the MDT and will support staff to develop appropriate forums for case discussions, team formulations, and reflective practice. The post holder will undertake audit, research, and service development projects across the whole service.
