Job summary
An exciting opportunity for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, Psychotherapist or Cognitive Behavioural Therapist has arisen within our Community Perinatal Mental Health Team as part of the expanding psychological therapies offer in our service. This role is to provide psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions to women, infants and their families during the perinatal period from pregnancy to the infant's 2nd birthday, as well as to support psychological thinking in the multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have a genuine interest in the field of perinatal mental health and good experience in delivering evidence-based psychological interventions. The central duty of the job will be to provide assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions to women (and their families) during the period of pregnancy and the two years following the baby's birth.
It would be desirable for applicants to have some previous experience of working in the field of perinatal mental health and to have knowledge of perinatal mental health conditions, interventions and safeguarding issues. The ability to work closely with professionals from multiple professional backgrounds as well as with outside agencies (e.g. in maternity services, health visiting and children's services) is important. The service has a good focus on supporting colleagues in training, with links to the local clinical psychology training programme, providing placements for psychotherapists and psychologists in training and facilitating doctoral research. Skills in research and service evaluation would be valuable.

This post is to support the development of psychological therapy provision within our expanding specialist community perinatal team. The service provides community support across the whole of Leeds for mothers suffering from moderate to severe mental health difficulties in the perinatal period, to prevent further deterioration and admission to hospital. The post also provides discharge follow up for mothers who have been admitted to the Yorkshire and Humber Mother and Baby Unit, group work and advice on the care and management of women suffering from a significant mental illness or at risk of developing a significant mental health difficulty in the perinatal period.
You will join a growing psychological therapies team and will be part of the wider multi-disciplinary team. The specialist community team provide support to an increased number of women (as well as support for partners, families and siblings) both individually and via therapeutic group work. You will be responsible for delivering a highly specialist therapy service within the perinatal service, alongside psychological therapist colleagues. This will involve the application of evidence-based psychological approaches to the assessment, formulation and both individual and group treatment of service users of the community team. Therapy will be offered to service users which may be within a range of settings. We are a friendly and supportive service, and we will be keen to encourage you in professional development through access to training and support to develop specialist areas of interest.
You should have a relevant professional qualification and registration as set out in the person specification. You should have some knowledge of the field of perinatal mental health and any previous experience of working with women in the perinatal period would be beneficial.
