Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Leeds Adult ADHD Service, for a new full time Band 7 Adult ADHD Advanced Practitioner.
We are looking for a dynamic experienced clinician with enthusiasm and passion to join our innovative, exciting and highly regarded service. You will join a multi-disciplinary team within the Adult ADHD Service and will primarily be responsible for leading the clinical development and provision of the service, training development, clinical supervision and provide advice to mental health service providers, both internal and external to the Trust.
Alongside the multi-disciplinary team, you will be directly involved in the clinical diagnostic assessment process of ADHD in an adult population, and treatment of those receiving a diagnosis, utilising your prescribing knowledge & skills. Your leadership skills will enable you to work alongside a wider group of stakeholders involved in the redesign of services across the city and West Yorkshire region, with the aim of enabling adults seeking diagnosis greater opportunity of accessing this in a timelier way.
Continuous improvement is embedded within the team's culture, data and information gathered is used to identify solutions to improve the service.
You will lead on the development and delivery of training alongside the team to a wide range of stakeholders in statutory services including education, health, and local authority as well as voluntary and private sectors.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will take a leading role in the development and provision of ADHD specific clinical training, clinical supervision and advice to mental health services Trust-wide.
- The post holder will participate as directed by the Clinical Team Manager in the operational functioning of the Leeds Adult ADHD Service.
- The post holder will participate in delivery of specialist assessments within the Adult ADHD assessment & treatment pathway for adults of all intellectual abilities.
- The post holder will be highly skilled and competent in conducting clinical and risk assessments.
- The post holder will work as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team within the service and will contribute to all aspects of the diagnostic assessment pathway, as well as participate/lead in the development and delivery of the post-diagnostic provision.

You will have experience of working with adults within a mental health setting and neurodiversity, particularly ADHD and we will continue to offer you to access robust internal & external training, continuing professional development, and clinical, managerial, and professional supervision. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent time management skills and you will be flexible in your therapeutic approach to accommodate complexity of needs. We also link with regular CPD events, including attendance at relevant courses, national professional forums and conferences.
We work closely with Leeds Beckett University delivering student Nursing, and Occupational Therapy placements. As an organisation we are keen to support research and development activities including master and post graduate opportunities.
Currently there is opportunity for a combination of home-based and office -based working. The latter within the Leeds Autism Diagnostic Service accommodation until availability of an ADHD team office base is confirmed.
- You will work within the Leeds Adult ADHD Service as an accountable, autonomous health care practitioner, and will be responsible for co-producing and providing ADHD specific training, clinical supervision and advice in collaboration with: Staff within the Leeds Adult ADHD Service; Partnership organisations, Experts by Experience and carers.
- You will assist in the development and delivery of ADHD specific treatments and interventions offered within the Leeds Adult ADHD Service. This includes non-medical prescribing for service users diagnosed with ADHD, non-pharmacological/psychosocial interventions as informed by service user involvement & NICE guidance/evidence-based practice and ADHD advice, training and supervision for LYPFT clinical staff as required.
- You will lead in developing the CAMHS transitions pathway in the Adult ADHD service, in collaboration with inpatient & community CAMHS services within LYPFT alongside colleagues within the Adult ADHD Team.
- You will assist other members of the team develop knowledge and skills to meet the changing needs of the service.
- You will work across the Trust and with external partner agencies to facilitate the achievement of sustainable service improvement in relation to the experience of people with ADHD accessing mainstream mental health services within LYPFT.
- You will provide highly specialised advice about the diagnosis and treatment of mental health needs of service users diagnosed with ADHD, in a consultative capacity, to other professionals involved in the care of the service user. This includes guidance on how to implement Reasonable Adjustments for people accessing mental health services.
- You will promote safety and positive risk taking by the team including risk assessment advice and management
- You will provide clinical expertise to staff around the assessment and management of risk in relation to discharging people diagnosed with ADHD from services, who in additional have complex mental health needs.
- You will have a thorough knowledge of mental health legislation, Capacity Act, and Equality Act and be able to apply this in relation to autistic service users
- You will develop and maintain constructive working relationships with service users, carers and families
