Job summary

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Professional Lead Nurse to join the Nursing Quality and Professions Directorate. We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing proactive, visible professional nursing leadership across a wide variety of mental health and learning disability services along with a credible expertise of working in a culturally diverse nursing workforce. Someone that understands the importance of evidence-based research and the fundamental standards of care delivery that support nurses to work effectively and professionally to deliver outstanding care.

The successful candidate will support the Director and Deputy Director of Nursing in the professional and strategic leadership of nurses, ensuring a safe and high-quality service. You will also work alongside the professional leads from other disciplines within LYPFT developing a strong professional leadership structure across LYPFT.

Main duties of the job

As a vital member of the Nursing directorate, you will have a strong background and be a credible expert in Nursing leadership.

You will need to hold a Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse professional qualification and registration with the NMC.

This post is full time and will be reporting to the Head of Nursing. To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate a track record of relevant experience in a senior leadership role and appropriate qualifications.

Job responsibilities

You will role model high professional standards, behaviours and attitudes; raising the profile of the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and their implications for nursing practice.

Support the nursing workforce to collaborate with service users as experts in their own care and foster a culture of service users, carers and families feeling listened to and being central to service developments and the values of the Trust.

Develop and embed the nursing strategy across all clinical areas of the Trust, providing nursing leadership and support to staff in taking forward nursing developments.

You will support the nursing directorate in undertaking nursing workforce planning and redesign, including evidence based bi-annual skill mix review and regular monitoring of the nursing resource in terms of cost effectiveness along with the development and introduction of new roles.

Provide support for the delivery and reporting of the safer staffing agenda. Ensure staffing systems such as E-Rostering, temporary staffing, deployment and

redeployment are fully utilised and linked together; play a lead role in supporting the recruitment and retention of high-quality nurses who work effectively within teams.

Work in partnership with the Practice learning and development team, Head of Learning and Development, Higher education institutions and Health Education England to ensure that all students, pre-professional and those in pre and post registration training are educated and trained to the required national standards in order to meet the care needs of service users and modern clinical practice standards. This will include development, education and embedding of new roles in the services, such as Non-medical prescribing, Nursing associates and Associate practitioners.

To act as lead for learning and improvement including the review, monitoring and improvement in medication errors.

To play a lead clinical role in the delivery of quality assurance and continuous improvement. Working alongside other colleagues to raise awareness, raise standards and embed a culture which understands and values the notion of external regulation and scrutiny. This will include ensuring systems are in place across all services and disciplines to implement, evaluate and improve standards of practice and outcomes.

In addition, the post holder will deputise for the Head of Nursing, maintain their own clinical practice and actively support the leadership, governance and development of the nursing professions.
