Job summary
Due to funding changes we now have the exciting opportunity to advertise for two band 6 Occupational Therapists to join our established multi-disciplinary team working in the Acute Womens Service at the Becklin Centre. This role was previously one post which would cross over our two wards. We are looking for a skilled, compassionate, and motivated Occupational Therapists who have the desire to work with individuals experiencing an acute episode in their mental health.
We are at an exciting time in the acute service where the Occupational Therapy role can be re established and developed post pandemic. Occupational Therapists are no longer being asked to work within the staffing numbers and we are looking at a reset and recovery plan for the Occupational Therapy provision. The post holders will have an active role in shaping and evaluate the OT Pathway across our Acute Inpatient Service. As a service we are in the process of reinitiating the use of MOHO assessments to aid our assessment and screening process. The post holders will bring valued experience and skills to our teams and have the opportunity to share their specialist knowledge in our OT development sessions.
These roles will be based on Ward 1 and Ward 5 of the Becklin Centre. These are both 22 bedded wards for people who present with acute and complex mental health difficulties. Providing 24 hour care to manage risk and promote recovery for clients who have experienced deterioration in their mental state.
Main duties of the job
Both wards have a band 5 Occupational Therapist and an Occupational Therapy Assistant currently in post.
The post holder will work within the MDT to provide assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. They will utilise Occupational Therapy theory and evidence-based practice to provide effective treatment to individuals admitted to the ward. The post holder will work autonomously and provide specialist assessments which will form part of team formulations and treatment decisions, and through the use of person-centred interventions enable recovery and support effective discharge from hospital.
In addition to providing 1:1 assessments the post holder will aim to lead on the therapeutic group programme establishing an effective group timetable that facilitates the growth of functional and social skills.
The post holder will also contribute to on-going service development within the wider OT team. This will include supervising of band 5 Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants within the women's service, delegating responsibilities where appropriate.
Whilst the posts are ward based, you will have close links with the Occupational Therapy Team and will work to provide a 7 day service.

Reporting and Recording
- Post holder will maintain and produce detailed contemporaneous and accurate records and reports at all times in accordance with agreed procedures.
- Assist with data collection and the daily completion of statistical information
- Use of computer to aid work.
- Contribute data for local performance indicators.
- Follow integrated care pathways as specified for Acute Inpatient Services and to report on variances and feedback as necessary.
The post holder on occasions may be involved in project work or contribute ideas/participate in sub groups to provide feedback on specific topics that they currently have experience with in their scope of professional practice.
