The Leeds and York Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a part time Consultant Psychiatrist in Working Age Adult Psychiatry to work at the Rough Sleepers Mental Health Team based in Leeds.
Within Leeds we know people who sleep rough experience a number of difficulties in accessing mainstream mental health (MH) services for many reasons including the inability to adhere to planned appointments and substance misuse. However, we have excellent support provision and there are a number of services in Leeds working together around street homelessness including from the Local Authority, VCSE sector and NHS.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting new role with in a newly funded service for those rough sleeping 'and at risk of'. The model has been co-produced with partners/practitioners across the sector working with those experiencing street homelessness. This service also aims to build on the small number of pilots to address barriers to accessing mental health services using a psychological trauma informed approach. The post holder will be joining a new multi-disciplinary team within the Working Age Adult Community Services.

The aims of the service include:
- Assessment of need (those over 16) who have self-identified a mental health concern or referred through a trusted referrer (including both health and non-health agencies).
- Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) approach - Initial assessments undertaken by an experienced practitioner and presented at the new rough sleeper MH MDT. The team will provide opportunities to offer support/advice to practitioners outside of the specialist team. A case formulation may be undertaken if there is enough detail to support one. A short period of engagement/assessment with the specialist MH team may be suggested - with the MH practitioner, psychologist; or they may be offered a therapeutic intervention eg short term psychological support; or body-based work from other therapeutic practitioners.
- Case formulation to support care planning. Formulation ensures a person led experience rather than a medical model approach. Often experiences with services can lead to traumatisation and inaccurate diagnoses.
- Peer support and training, as well as, sharing learning and best practice to those leading on transformation across the city to ensure the needs of the most vulnerable are consider and included in the redesign of mental health services.

- Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
- To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in General Adult Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview) or equivalent.
Experience

- Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
- Extensive experience in Homeless Health and in depth understanding of complex trauma and multiple co-morbidities in the homeless community
- Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
