Job summary

The NHS Northern Gambling Service is a regional service, with clinics for Yorkshire and the Humber (Leeds), for the North West (Manchester) and the North East (Sunderland). The service is led by a Consultant Psychologist and national expert in the field. As a new service the postholder can contribute to ongoing service developments and evaluation, and has the opportunity to innovate.

Main duties of the job

The clinical model is psychological, with psychological therapy in a group and/or individual format. Cognitive behavioural therapy forms the core model for gambling addiction, with other models used for co-occurring emotional vulnerability and trauma (DBT, EMDR, CBT). The multi-disciplinary team is made up of psychology, psychiatry, mental health nurses and psychotherapists. The post holder will be based in our Leeds clinic, some travel across clinics may be necessary.

They will provide assessment, case formulation, care planning, risk assessment and safety planning, and treatment of service users with gambling disorder and co-occurring distress. The role also involves using our family intervention for those affected by someone elses gambling disorder. Providing clinical supervision to other disciplines will form part of the role.

The role will involve supporting audit and clinical governance. They will be supervised by a senior clinical psychologist and work within the full regional MDT. They will work within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the Trusts policies and procedures. Some teaching/presentations in public, academic, and professional settings is also a part of the role.

  • Doctorate level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS (or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996) with HCPC registration OR Doctorate level training in Counselling Psychology or Forensic Psychology (or Masters accredited by BPS) with HCPC registration

Experience

Essential

  • Willingness to train in supervision of psychologists or psychotherapists in training
  • Experience of specialist psychology assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.

Knowledge
