Job responsibilities

1. Education and Training

1.1 To represent the Trust at system and regional educational events/meetings to share and learn best practice and ensure the Trust is an active contributor in decision making.

1.2 To ensure the creation and delivery of education and training to support the development of alternative roles and new ways of working as part of workforce transformation.

1.3 To provide expert advice to senior leaders and other stakeholders to ensure provision of education, training, professional and workforce development opportunities which promote recruitment, retention, career development and a positive staff experience.

1.4 To support the Head of Practice and Professional Development in aspects of workforce planning and the development and implementation of the workforce transformation plan.

1.5 To support the development of educators in alignment with the Educator Workforce Framework.

1.6 To lead, in consultation with the education leadership team, the development and delivery of a multi-professional learning and development plan, providing regular reports on progress.

1.7 To ensure the provision of effective, engaging essential training programmes which equip staff with the core values and knowledge required for their roles and meet national and professional recommendations.

1.8 To lead the co-ordination of a range of training plans, including continuing professional development and collating a high-level plan for the Strategic Education and Training group

2. Leadership

2.1 To provide inspirational and creative leadership to the education team and clinical educators.

2.2 To keep updated on current national and regional education and professional issues and proposals and brief others as appropriate.

2.3 To take responsibility for the development of Trust education and training policies, keeping these up to date, ensuring effective engagement to promote ownership and implementation.

2.4 To ensure education and training risks are identified, reported on the risk register and actively managed, escalating any concerns to the appropriate body.

2.5 To provide education and training advice to the Head of Practice and Professional Development and Education Leadership Team, taking the lead and being accountable for delegated workstreams.

2.6 To lead the Trust response to changes in educational standards required by professional bodies eg NMC, regulatory bodies eg CQC, OfSTED, and HEI partnership agreements.

2.7 To take the lead on the development of quality assurance mechanisms, providing oversight of the quality of learning and acting on evaluations and external inspection and regulatory body reviews.

2.8 To co-ordinate compliance information and monitoring of education and training standards, and drive any actions required to improve this, principally through the Education Quality Group and Inter-professional Education Group.

2.9 To role model the Trust Leadership Principles and Behaviours and provide coaching and mentoring opportunities.

2.10 To develop and maintain effective relationships with subject matter experts to ensure essential and optional training is regularly reviewed and refreshed to ensure effective and enjoyable learning, with provision of reasonable adjustments where practical.

2.11 To work with system partners to streamline essential training reducing duplication and making best use of training capacity, taking the lead on system work streams as appropriate.

2.12 To be responsible for the inter-professional education and training group, providing a forum for engagement of key stakeholders across the trust and driving forward the educational agenda and developments in support of the Quality Strategy.

3. Operational and Financial Management

3.1 To Work collegiately with the Education Business and Performance lead to ensure effective operational management of the education resources, providing a high-quality learning environment.

3.2 To provide line management, support and supervision for the educator teams ensuring service continuity and high quality educational provision.

3.3 To operationally manage team budgets and provide oversight and reporting of the educational funding streams for continual professional development.

3.4 To provide expert advice to the Head of Practice and Professional Development in the development of business cases for use of educational resources in partnership with other senior key stakeholders.

4. Personal Development

4.1 To actively maintain and develop knowledge and skills for the role, ensuring awareness of national and local NHS priorities and targets.

4.2 To participate in the appraisal process, identifying and acting upon development needs and undertaking appraisal for team members.

4.3 To take responsibility for maintaining professional registration and revalidation, ensuring own professional development in support of the post.

5. Other Duties

5.1 To undertake such other duties and responsibilities within the scope of the role as may from time to time be agreed.
