Job summary

The Patient Catering Manager is responsible for managing the patient catering service at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The catering service provides breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks and beverages for approximately 560 patients each day.

All meals are prepared by the on-site third party provider, Sodexo and are served to patients by the Patient Catering team.

The post holder will have management responsibility for four catering supervisors and 80 Patient Catering Assistants. They will report directly to the Deputy Head of Facilities.

The Patient Catering Manager will also be responsible for HACCP systems and all legislative requirements.

Paramount to the role is the management of the third party catering supplier, which is currently Sodexo.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring patient catering services are delivered efficiently and effectively to include management of key contracts, budgets and KPIs

Ensuring compliance with external bodies and standards such as CQC, ERIC, PLACE, PAM, FOI requests, and Food Standards agency by taking the lead on benchmarking, data returns and compliance reporting.

To performance manage Patient Catering Services against departmental targets and a range of KPI's, providing first line investigation and resolution of KPI performance issues on behalf of the Head of Facilities.

Responsible for statutory and regulatory requirements within food safety/ HACCP and best practice

Generate and implement new ideas for innovation and service delivery and act as a catalyst for change management and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across all areas of the directorate.

Actively manage the quality of service delivery of the patient catering contract. Involve all key stakeholders in service reviews and service development as appropriate

Vigorously manage food quality ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction to enhance the patient experience

Responsibility for the management of Patient Service Supervisory team, inclusive of workload management, the production of rotas, training and development, appraisal, sickness absence monitoring, recruitment and issues related to grievance and disciplinary in accordance with Trust policies.
