Job summary
Applications are welcomed for the position of Medical Examiner at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
You will work closely with colleagues from across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire in collaboration with: medical examiner's officers, mortuary team, bereavement team, HM Coroner and the Coroner's officers, community healthcare organisations and the Trust and Primary Care governance teams.
The Medical Examiner function will contribute to the Learning from Deaths process with oversight maintained by the Trust's Learning from Deaths Committee. It is expected the ME will support the delivery of a high-performing Medical Examiner's function that is respectful, compassionate and operates to best practice in partnership with others.
Please note, this post is not just open to Consultants - this is reflective of salary scale only.
The post due to commence from April 2024.
Main duties of the job
Some of the key duties will include
Engagement and liaison:
o To support bereaved families, responding to questions, concerns or queries after the death of a loved oneo To act as a link between the Trust and the HM Coroner's officeo Support doctors in relation to causes of death before they prepare a MCCDo To ensure that information cited on the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death is accurate.o Scrutinise the certified causes of all in-scope deaths to comply with national protocolo Ensure there are no potential conflict of interest between Medical Examiner and deaths under scrutiny.o To raise any clinical governance concerns regarding deaths through incident reporting, safeguarding processes and the mortality review system
Leadership and Management:
o Support the training of junior doctors in completion of MCCDs and provide feedbacko Provide advice and support and any development, education and learning to colleagues across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire, requiring additional support and guidance in MCCDs and reporting deaths to HM Coronero Maintain the local Medical Examiner's office at the Trust
