Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced Nurse Associate to join our friendly, but busy, Transfusion Nursing Team. This is a permanent, part time position, and is well suited to someone that has excellent communication skills and is interested in developing their knowledge and expertise in the speciality field of transfusion.
The Transfusion Nursing Team work to ensure our patients receive safe and appropriate transfusions by providing education and training opportunities, clinical support and advice for all of our clinical teams.
Working as part of the Education Team, but based in Pathology, the role will support the Transfusion Nursing Team in the development, implementation and provision of training and competency assessment for all staff involved in the transfusion process.
Main duties of the job
- To provide on-going support to the Trust, Derbyshire Pathology and Royal Primary Care, to ensure that the blood transfusion training needs of all staff are met, according to their grade and role, in line with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT), British Society for Haematology (BSH) and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance.
- To develop, implement, supervise and provide specialist advice in the training of all relevant staff in blood transfusion, from collection of the blood sample to final fate of the blood product/component.
- To facilitate and deliver recognised Clinical Skills and Simulation based courses, for all disciplines within the Trust and assist in the development of in-situ simulated transfusion training.
- Working in conjunction with the Transfusion Nursing Team, provide specialist, evidence based advice and on-going clinical support to all staff in the Trust, with regard to blood transfusion and patient blood management.
- To provide support to the blood transfusion skills element of the medical student's clinical placements
- To support the completion of bedside audits of transfusion practice, from collection of blood to the end of transfusion.
- To support the Transfusion Nursing Team in the development, delivery and evaluation of all programmes in order to meet service priorities and quality standards

The friendly Transfusion Nursing Team, work as part of the Education Team, but are based in Pathology. We work across the Chesterfield Royal site, providing transfusion education and clinical support for all our clinical colleagues working across all specialities. Our aim is to ensure our staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to ensure our patients receive appropriate and safe transfusion care. We work in partnership with the Blood Bank Team, hosted at Chesterfield by Derbyshire Pathology.
