Job summary

The Ophthalmology Department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital supports the North Derbyshire Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service and is seeking to recruit fully qualified retinal screeners to support the departments restoration and recovery programme post pandemic over this next year.

You will have already completed the national diploma qualification in diabetic retinopathy screening / grading and have a proven track record of the completion of up to date test and training sets.

Experience of managing own busy retinal screening clinics and the grading of digital images at primary and secondary level is essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will work at the hospital base plus conduct own peripheral outreach clinics in and around North Derbyshire and therefore a car driver with a full current driving license and access to own vehicle is essential. For disabled applicants; suitable alternative arrangements may be agreed, if necessary.

Flexibility is required within this post as the department provides a service that includes daytime, evening and possibly some weekend clinics.

You must have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and work well as part of a team or autonomously. Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills are essential requirements of this post together with previous database management and good levels of IT knowledge.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is located in Calow, Chesterfield, which is situated on a green field site on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is home to the Crooked Spire and is also close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, thus offering numerous choices for recreational activities and lifestyles.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital was officially opened by the queen in 1985 and since then it has continued to expand and modernise, currently holding approximately 550 beds. We provide acute in-patient and out-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.
