Job summary

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is delighted to invite applications for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow - Mountain Medicine.

This innovative core level post will allow successful applicants to undertake the Diploma in Mountain Medicine (DiMM) provided by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) (or other related postgraduate study). This will be underpinned by appropriate rotational posts of 6 months duration to include:

  • Medicine (with links to Cardiology) / Emergency Medicine
  • Orthopaedics / Medicine (with links to Respiratory Medicine)

The postgraduate qualification provides health care professionals with the medical skills to operate independently in the mountain environment and a flexible blended learning programme is used to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge for managing the specific illnesses and diseases that may occur.

The course will be completed over 2 years and is delivered through 4 weeks of residential teaching and an online learning platform.

Main duties of the job

You will contribute to provision of clinical services alongside core rotational speciality trainees, Trust fellows and established consultant staff.

Out of hours cover is required as appropriate on one of the established specialty based rolling rotas.

General duties:

  • To monitor the progress of patients, prescribing and administering as appropriate, within established guidelines and any significant changes in progress as necessary.
  • To participate in the daytime duty rota and the out of hours full shift rota.
  • To participate in the work of the Cardiac Arrest and Trauma teams, should an emergency arise when on-call and available.
  • Undertake Continuing Professional Development in line with requirements of the post and gain education towards the Mountain Medicine qualification.
