Rotational Pharmacy Technician

Job summary

As a Rotational Pharmacy Technician, you will work across multiple areas, including dispensary services, ward-based medicines management, technical services and distribution. Your role will involve dispensing and checking medications, supporting medicines reconciliation, and providing patient counselling to ensure the safe and appropriate use of medicines. On the wards, you will take accurate medication histories, assess patients own drugs (PODs) and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise treatment. Within the dispensary, you will prepare and dispense prescriptions for inpatients, outpatients and discharge, while in technical services you may support the preparation of aseptic products. You will also contribute to stock control and the efficient supply of medicines throughout the Trust.Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 3 and BTEC in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) and be registered with the GPhC. Working towards or holding Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) status would be advantageous. You should demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills, and the ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment, as well as a commitment to collaborative working within a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

  • Rotate through key pharmacy areas, including dispensary, ward-based services, technical services.
  • Dispense, prepare and accurately check medications for inpatients, outpatients and discharge prescriptions
  • Support medicines reconciliation by taking accurate medication histories on admission
  • Assess patients own drugs (PODs) for suitability and use during hospital stays
  • Provide patient counselling to promote the safe and effective use of medicines
  • Work closely with pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team to optimise patient care
  • Assist in the preparation of aseptic products (e.g. intravenous medications) where required
  • Support the management and supply of clinical trial medicines where applicable
  • Maintain accurate stock control and contribute to medicines distribution across the Trust
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, professional and organisational standards, including GPhC requirements
