Maternity Support Worker - Antenatal Clinic

19.5 Hours per week
Maternity support worker, to work in a busy antenatal clinic setting, assist the multidisciplinary team with caring for women, babies and their families throughout their maternity journey, working under supervision and within agreed guidelines and protocols when providing care to women and their families. You will work alongside and support the Midwives and Obstetricians in clinic, taking observations, performing venepuncture, CO testing, urinalysis, accurately documenting and escalating concerns as required. You will assist in preparation of patient records, discuss smoking cessation and referring to the relevant person and carry out admin duties. You will be required to support in other areas of maternity and adapt your skill accordingly.
Main duties of the job
To provide advice as appropriate within own sphere/limitations of practice. To provide care that ensures the care, dignity and comfort of women. Implement packages of care with families, which include providing assistance/advice regarding feeding, hygiene, safety and support the establishment of parenting skills. Maintain clear, accurate, legible and timely written documentation in women's maternity records, observing and reporting any changes in a woman's condition to the Midwife To follow the area safeguarding guidelines and to be aware of adult and child safeguarding issues. Make referrals to other agencies as appropriate following consultation with the designated Midwife. Perform relevant observations, i.e. pulse, blood pressure, adult pulse oximetry, temperature, body mass index measurement and urine testing. Supporting women with mental health. Ability to provide a wide range of parent education appropriate to service need. Participate in general cleaning and housekeeping duties within acute/community settings. Obtain patient bloods, collect and deliver a range of samples ensuring full and accurate labelling following counselling and obtained consent by registered professional in accordance with Trust policy. Be able to respond calmly in an emergency situation assisting the midwife with obstetric and neonatal emergencies. Have an understanding of the procedures to summon clinical and ambulance support.
