They play a pivotal role in leading and managing change, driving service improvement initiatives, and inspiring midwives and maternity support staff to actively contribute to the ongoing development of the maternity service and the enhancement of womens and families experiences.

The successful candidate will provide visible, approachable, and professional leadership on the Labour Ward, offering expert guidance and support. They will ensure care is delivered in line with best practice, safe staffing requirements, and local and national standards, while consistently promoting a woman-centred philosophy of care.

The post holder will consistently act as an advocate for women and facilitate effective communication across professional groups, services, and disciplines. They will also participate in the recruitment and selection of midwifery and maternity support staff.

Acting as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be a visible role model for excellence in practice. They will work collaboratively with Labour Ward Coordinators to deliver and embed service developments, evidence-based practice, and education programmes that enhance knowledge and skills. This role includes supporting and supervising learners across the MDT, including students allocated to the Labour Ward, in the care of women, babies, and families.
