The Maternal Mental Health Specialist Midwife is a senior role within The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, providing expert, traumainformed care for women and birthing people with complex maternal mental health needs, including birth trauma and perinatal loss. Working at Band 7 (0.4 WTE), the post holder will lead the development and delivery of maternal mental health pathways in partnership with psychology services and the wider multidisciplinary team. The role includes specialist assessment and support for a defined caseload, leadership in staff education and training, and acting as an expert resource on maternal mental health and traumainformed care. The post holder will contribute to service development, quality improvement and governance, ensuring highquality, compassionate and equitable care across maternity services.

Main duties of the job

Lead delivery of the Birth in Mind service, providing trauma informed, psychologically informed support for women and birthing people affected by birth trauma and distress. Embed Birth in Mind principles across maternity services in line with national maternity and perinatal mental health priorities. Address health inequalities in access to care, identifying and reducing barriers for women from underserved and marginalised communities. Work closely with Clinical Psychology, perinatal mental health services and system partners to deliver the South Yorkshire Bassetlaw Birth Trauma Model. Provide specialist assessment and therapeutic conversations for a defined caseload, working alongside the womans named midwife. Act as an expert resource for staff, supporting education, reflective practice and trauma informed care. Contribute to service evaluation and quality improvement, including monitoring equity of access and outcomes. Maintain high standards of safeguarding, governance and professional practice in line with NMC and Trust policies.
